the background to our work

Housing for Women's roots go back to the early Thirties when the Association was formed in response to a general call for secure, affordable homes for women. At this time many of the Association's early supporters were suffragette sympathisers, some of whom gifted their properties to help our work.

Conscious of the economic disparity affecting women, the Association provides good quality accommodation at affordable rents. We have over 600 properties in management across London and our central ethos is the empowerment of women to take charge of their own lives by providing a secure base.

Today our housing provision has been developed to meet the needs of single women and their dependants, women with disabilities, women escaping domestic violence and move on accommodation for refugees
